In depth filtration, "one size" never fits all. While PP Melt Blown filters are the standard for high-purity water, String Wound filters are the rugged specialists of the industrial world.
Choosing between a standard Polypropylene (PP) wound filter and a Bleached Cotton filter with a Stainless Steel (SS) core depends on two critical factors: Temperature and Chemical Compatibility.
Standard PP line-wound filters (with PP cores) are the most economical solution for general sediment removal in non-potable water systems.
Best For: Industrial process water, cooling loops, and pre-filtration in chemical processing.
Chemical Resistance: Excellent resistance to acids and alkalis.
The Limitation: Because the core and the yarn are both Polypropylene, these filters should not be used in environments exceeding 60℃-80℃. Beyond this point, the structural integrity of the filter may be compromised (the core may soften or "bypass" occur).
When your application involves high heat or aggressive solvents, the Bleached Cotton filter with a 304/316 Stainless Steel core is the industry answer.
High Temperature Performance: Unlike plastic-based filters, the SS core combined with cotton fiber can withstand temperatures up to 120°C - 150°C (250°F+). This is essential for:
Boiler blowdown and condensate return.
Hot vegetable oil filtration (Food processing).
High-temperature steam filtration.
Exceptional "Crush Strength": The stainless steel core provides a rigid skeleton that prevents the filter from collapsing under high differential pressure ($\Delta P$), even when heavily loaded with sediment.
No Surfactants: Our cotton is thoroughly bleached and degreased to ensure no "foaming" or leaching occurs during initial startup.
Feature | PP String Wound (PP Core) | Cotton String Wound (SS Core) |
Material Compliance | Industrial Grade | Industrial Grade / High-Temp |
Max Operating Temp | ~60-80°C (140-176°F) | ~120-150°C (248-302°F) |
Core Material | Polypropylene | Stainless Steel (304 / 316) |
Crush Resistance | Moderate | Maximum |
Ideal Fluid | General Water, Acidic/Alkaline Solvents | Hot Oils, High-Pressure Steam, Condensates |
Choose PP String Wound if: You need an economical, durable filter for ambient temperature industrial water and don't require specific food-grade certifications.
Choose Cotton + SS Core if: You are filtering high-temperature fluids, hot oils, or your system experiences high-pressure spikes that would deform a plastic core.
